SOLAR DECATHLON (SD) is a university international competition promoted by the Department of Energy, USA. The first edition was held in 2002 and since then has been held every two years up to the 2013 edition, held in California.






SOLAR DECATHLON (SD) is a university international competition promoted by the Department of Energy, USA. The first edition was held in 2002 and since then has been held every two years up to the 2013 edition, held in California.
The objectives of the competition will focus on research, innovation, design and subsequent construction projects and energy self-sufficient living spaces that run only on solar energy. However, the competition is part of a context in which the study and research of the limits of sustainability and efficiency are the main pillars in the context of architecture, and construction inginieria.
Relating this prototype a development project viable competition facing the current economic and ecological challenges through a global vision. The Solar Decathlon Europe (SDE) originated in 2007 due to the bilateral agreement between the governments of Españaa and USA, who agreed to hold the competition two consecutive years, 2010 and 2012, in Madrid. The 2014 edition will be held in Versailles, Paris, France.
During the competition there are 10 contest
There are three types of scoring mechanisms in the competition: Task completion,Monitored performance and Scoring from JURYTask competition scoring
The teams will obtain points for successfully completing the requested tasks. Points will be awarded as a function of 'closeness to completion'.
Monitored performance sroring
During the competition week, the house will be continuously monitored and specific measurements will also be done. The scoring is based on the approach to the goal predetermined in the contests.
Points awarded by jury
Expert jurors will award points according to the assessment evaluation criteria and guideliris developed by SDE.
The team with the highest total points at the end of the competition wins.SCORING
